During 2020–2023 the species Cynoglossum germanicum (Boraginaceae) was observed in abundance on Výrov hill (Džbán plateau, NW Bohemia, Czech Republic). Cynoglossum germanicum had never been reliably reported for the Czech flora despite its occurrence in neighbouring countries (Germany, Austria, Slovakia). The geology and vegetation of Výrov correspond well to the natural habitats of C. germanicum in other parts of its distribution range. After discussing various scenarios which might explain the occurrence of the Výrov population, the authors conclude that the species could be indigenous here. In the past, Výrov attracted only low interest from botanists, and C. germanicum could have occurred here in a small population only, hence being overlooked. The species could have expanded at the locality only recently, due to environmental changes – a scenario known from W European populations.
