Lichen-diversity research in seven proposed Sites of Community Importance situated in the Záhorská nížina plain was conducted in 2006. The authors present the findings supplemented with the search of all information regarding this territory of the country. The species list contains alltogether 142 species, thence recently recorded were 61. Referring to the information from the past, a decline in species diversity and abundance of the terricolous species are evident, mainly due to overgrowing of the sandy soil caused by hypertrophication. Epiphytes are still locally abundant. The most important records are those of Hypotrachyna revoluta and Parmotrema chinense, reported recently so far only from eastern Slovakia.
